My source for the no causualties was the friendly SP, both through the lies that they told the media, and what they told their employees.
We were quite concerned at Taylor as we had 20 or so cars coming through every day or so during that period. These were mid to late 40's, 50', wood floor, friction journal bearing, USDODX (and some Navy markings, if I recall right?)box cars, that were really out of date even back then. After we knew what had happened it was really unbelievable that they would ship live bombs, in these cars. So I think the Company was just trying to reassure us that everything was okay.
When we had some of the K-car incidents like the Houston (propane car) "rockets", they would reassure us about that, too.
