I have to plead ignorance on bridges. I have a couple of contacts that I can check with and post a new message if I can find anything. From pictures that I've seen of the old bridge, $5M does seem a little steep. The thing that I do know about construction on certain WSDOT-owned properties is that they can become Public Projects that can be subject to prevailing wage costs. There is a difference in WSDOT-owned vs. WSDOT-funded. I do know that we had a very brief side conversation at our office about the bridge right after the fire with a WSDOT official. We didn't dig too deep because there was a perceived (by us) reluctance by the official to talk too much about it. If I find out "the rest of the story", I might not be able to say anything. I'm very much governed by my employer in regards to dispensing certain information--and I enjoy continued employment:).
