Good point Richard. I will forward your suggestion on to the organizers of the Portland event. If the Coast Starlight is anywhere close to being on-time this shouldn't be a problem. Amtrak may have established the 3 PM closing time to limit the number of folk out on the platforms during the Starlight's arrival and the Builder's departure.
