Back in the early 70s when Amtrak first started, I was firing passenger between Milwaukee and LaCrosse,Wi. for the Milwaukee Road.
It was not unusual, as it happened more then once, for the train crew to contact the engine on our eastbound trip and have medical services, namely ambulances,at the ready when we pulled into Wisconsin Dells,Wi. One trip, over ten passengers were taken from the train as the Dells was the first stop after lunch.
During the summer, as the refrigeration was not the best on those old diners, the body count would be higher. No fatalities were ever reported, but the seriousness of the illness was just as bad as those reported in the above article in Canada.
Have we forgotten cruise ships??
