Based on the volumes handled when the line was last in service from Willits southward (1998), the volume of business from the customers still there in 2005 would be about 4,100 cars per year (or almost 79 cars per week). Of that total, 21 per week to the grain elevators, 25 per week inbound construction lumber, and the rest inbound consumer products and manufactured goods (beverages, roofing shingles, cement, scrap flat cars, and other AKS), plus a smattering of outbound redwood. Still well below the rule-of-thumb 100 cars per mile.
