A number of Northwest/WA State transportation studies have identified the stretch between Connell and Hatton/Cunningham as the single biggest obstacle to capacity and velocity on the Lakeside Sub. Not just because it's single-track, but because those endless reverse curves in the coulee put such a crimp on running time between the sidings on either end. You get some sense of the delay factor just watching a heavy manifest labor its way up the coulee, but it's even more obvious when you ride Amtrak 27 or 28 through there and see how slow it must go, and for how long. Roger, what's the latest on that plan to run a second main through there along the ridgetops, Abo Canyon-style?
