SMART returned to downtown San Rafael this morning to test the crossings on the newly opened trackage between the Civic Center station and the current end of the line at 3rd and Tamalpais, adjacent to the old Northwestern Pacific depot building. I think they tested the crossings on the north side of the tunnel first, running through the tunnel and nearly down to the next crossing first. Then spent some time testing the crossings south of the tunnel before heading back to Santa Rosa.
Where's the Wookie? This view is from West Francisco Blvd looking across Mahon Creek toward the depot where testing train sits at the platform.
Here's a view from 2nd Street looking up disconnected NWP tracks. The test train is heading north.
Here are two views of Puerto Suello tunnel south portal area.
The test train crosses Fifth Ave. and hits the switch which will eventually be part of the San Rafael passing track between 5th Ave. and the Cal Park tunnel.
And here the train heads north across 5th.
