Re: Hyperloop -- This "emperor" has no clothes on

When I first read about this “hyperloop” project, my BS detector
went off -- loudly.

BOB2 and mook --
Thank you very, very much for vindicating my intuition!
I am not an engineer, and am not an expert -- just someone
who detests BS, and who loves facts and science. You have done
everyone a huge service by calmly and logically pointing out
why this silly idea cannot work. The laws of physics should never
be ignored. But too many people ignore them, and this stupid
"hyperloop" project is just another example of this ignorance.
Sigh.....

I have some questions about this "hyperlop" project that have
not been addressed here or elsewhere:

1. Where will they get the electricity this silly project will need
for its electromagnets and air-compressors and whatever keeps
the tube at a near vacuum?

2. How will they prevent the pods from slamming into the wall
of the tube when -- not if, but when -- the power goes off?

3. How will they protect the passengers during an earthquake --
which will deform the tube?

4. How will they deal with the seemingly universal shoddy
quality of parts and machinery that is caused by the economic
“race to the bottom” in which the only thing that matters is
to make things as cheaply as possible, no matter how poor the
quality is and how unsafe it will be to use?

5. Why are they ignoring the claustrophobia that many passengers
will experiences while they are sealed inside those small pods?
I am disgusted by the huge amount of time and money that have
been and are wasted on this stupid project -- time and money
that could have been, and should be, spent on ordinary
non-shiny-new public transportation projects.

And I am sick and tired of seeing Elon Musk’s name in the
media. That man does not deserve the publicity he has gotten,
nor does he deserve the gigantic amount of money he now has.

This thread is another wonderful example of why this site is
worth its weight in gold. THANK you, David Curlee, for keeping
“AP” going, and for moderating with a very light hand, and for
allowing us to speak our minds -- and for allowing thread posts
to wander all over the place, as normal and healthy conversations do.
Thank you.
