I got an autographed copy when John was selling them at the NP Depot Railroad Museum in Wallace, ID, back in 1987, as I recall. It was one of those big annual Wallace Depot Days weekends, and in addition to John's book signing I had about a dozen of my black & white prints on display, representing the CdA branches, UP's Wallace Branch, and the STMA. (20+ years later, those prints now hang on a couple of the walls in my home; oh how time flies!) John was a genuinely nice guy. Stan Johnson has also done a good job on CdA rail history with the second edition of his The Milwaukee Road in Idaho, which made several improvements over the first edition. That, plus a number of locally-published books on the timber trade (out of print, available only at area libraries or places like Auntie's book store in Spokane)and the photo collection at the Museum of North Idaho, are indispensible sources for tracing the branches and industries that once crowded CdA.
