The NWP will be running thirty stack trains a day out of Eureka before CA HSR ever turns a wheel. I firmly believe nothing of that magnitude will ever be built in this country again, due to the soicioeconomic complications endemic to our current-day society. The debates about routes, station stops, terminals, etc., are an exercise in futility. Who would invest capital with no expectation of receiving a return for twenty or more years (while conflicts played out in courtrooms, the halls of the EPA, etc.)? I'll believe it might have a chance if ever the airlines (like Southwest, United, Jet Blue, Alaska, etc.) start to fight it publically. In the meantime, the best I can say about HSR is that it provides some lucky staffers in Sacramento with nice offices and the occasional gala luncheon.
