When Long-Bell and International Paper Co. merged in 1956, I.P. had 51 % interest of the company, and the name Longview, Portland, and Northern became the name of most of their lines. My Mom lived in one of their logging camps in Washington (Ryderwood), my Grandpa hauled logs by mules for Long-Bell in Louisiana, my Dad put in 43 years with them, my brother 12, and I did 8 years myself. I worked for the company railroad part of that time, here in Oregon. I need to buy that book by Signor - it's about the only one I don't have. This story has re-newed my interest in the Company railroad history, and when I retire to Klamath County in a few years, I hope to be able to finish my research in that area. I am contacting an ex co-worker, from the mill in Weed, and he might be able to help. One of my earliest memories, as a small boy, was climbing all over an old dead-lined Long-Bell steamer, in Longview, WA.
