What are your worst encounters with insects while railfanning?

My two worst; biting flies in the Sand Hills of Nebraska east of Alliance, and voracious mosquitoes of at all places, the Rio Puerco River bridge of the Santa Fe El Paso line south of Belen. Not the worst, but yesterday at Skyline Trestle on Mullan, the little vampires were out in force.

I am sure you Alaska Railroad shooters have some tales.
