Antelope Valley Transit has about 6 express buses (780 series) that run from Lancaster and Palmdale to Downtown LA for about $9.50 one way with an 1 hr 50 min schedule starting at 3:30 in the morning
Don't know if they were also canceled when the 14 was closed (nothing on their web site about it)

In my opinion, you try to find the cheapest place to live, even its a hot, windy and 2 hours from your job.
You even have a governor who wants more trains and transit, and wants more commuters out of their gas using vehicles, to cut traffic and smog
And then something happens to cut off transit and no attempt is made to re-route partial service or advertise alternate transportation.
Metrolink and other agencies should have a plan to advise commuters in affected areas of alternate ways to go instead of your all SOL!
