Ms. Margaret states:
There are two problems the the WRM has that that they cannot do anything about:
1. The very hot weather April-October.
2. No good restaurants anywhere near RVJ.
Regarding Item # 2 (Food) :
Bab's Delta Diner in Suisun City is a decent, non-chain store eatery.
The hot dogs in the Depot Cafe at the Museum are very good, if that's all you want.
In Rio Vista there is a great place to eat called Foster's Bighorn. Full of mounted animals from all over the world. It really is an amazing collection! Worth the short drive from Rio Vista Junction.
Black Bear Diner on Hwy. 12 in Fairfield is pretty good.
Many years ago, we used to drive about a mile to old Walt Engle's General Store in Denverton.
Great little place to grab a snack.
Regarding Margaret's comment about the fiscal status of WRM. It is excellent. They probably have more money than any other railmuseum in the United States. They never touch the PRINCIPAL. They only dip into the reserve provided by the endowment INTEREST, as required.
Regarding her comments on the Key System Articulated Units. # 182 which got its motor truck repaired back East and # 187 which runs great also. # 186 is in storage and needs motor work and other things. It has been stored non-usable for about 30-years.
I too hope that the WRM gang get it repaired as it was the LAST unit to run in regular service. AND, as poster "Pullman" reminds everybody, there was talk years ago, of someday operating a THREE-Unit 'Key Train' like was regularly done on the old "F"-Line to Berkeley.
Of course, if that became possible someday, it might put a strain on WRM's substation !
Only time will tell !
Cheers.
