I visited on a normal day during the week last June. The experience was somewhat disappointing compared to previous visits. They only had one car running for the entire day. This was surprising because they used to have two cars operating. One would operate the longer interurban "Shiloh" route and the other would be a streetcar operating on the carbarn loop.
After we had arrived back at the carbarn after the Shiloh trip, one of the volunteers/docents said "Have a good day and stop at our gift shop on your way out." Some of the others in the group look confused. One guy was visiting from Germany and he really wanted to take some pictures inside the old, dusty carbarn. And the same volunteer said "Sure, you can look around for 5 minutes or so, then you need to walk towards the gift shop."
Oh and I tried to walk over to the picnic area (on the pedestrian trail~ not the tracks) and somebody hollered "Whoa! You're going the wrong way. The gift shop is in the other direction. And I gestured that I was wanted to go into the park and he said it was off-limits. So we returned to the gift shop to get in the car.
In the past, they offered tours in the new carbarn. And they encouraged folks to hang around for more rides, but that's not encouraged any more. It was a disappointing visit.
