I caught an LA one evening out of Wat Jct in the mid 70s. It had a UP unit on the point that had ditch lights and that was the first I had seen. They really light up road compared to the high UP head lights back then. They were aimed a little across each other so they really showed well in the curves.

Nothing matched our Mars lights. They were great in the fog where you could spot the beam in the upper left and turn out the headlight and see a signal coming up farther away.
