The Talgo's do not ride well on bad track. The Talgo suspension has no lateral compliance. So that when the wheel sets are perturbed across the gauge, that motion goes directly to the hanging point of the tilting body which in turn imparts a rocking motion to the train. You can experience this on the UP track south of the Columbia. The ride is far better on the BNSF north of the Columbia. The coast starlight cars have lateral compliance and ride much better on the UP track.
