As one of the more than 200 passengers riding the Texas Eagle on June 16th, I would like to thank all the people for the GREAT hospitality and kindness provided by all the community of Edgewood Texas. While waiting in the Edgewood siding for a passing freight, both engines died, leaving the Amtrak portion of the consist without air conditioning. I understand the outside temperature was around 100 degrees so it didn't take long for the temperature to go up in the consist.

Amtrak got us all unloaded and in some shade among the houses near the track.
Within a reasonable time the emergency response system of this community went into HIGH gear busing us to the local air conditioned high school gym.

Edgewood is a community of something like 2000 people. It seems a good percentage of the town came out to help. The Fire Department, the police department, the EMTs, the school parents and students, church vans, and the Red Cross. It was truly amazing the kindness we received. In fact one of the first community people to stumble on us quickly went back home and brought back some frozen treats to pass out!!! Then the full response began.

While we got to Ft. Worth something like 9 hours late, we arrived having received the best that us humans have to offer each other; kindness in our time of need.

What a way to finish by train adventure from Portland, Oregon to Ft. Worth, Texas for the National Railway Historical Society convention. Thank you Edgewood!! And thank you Altamont Press for picking up the newspaper artle.
