I could see it now. "This just in! Train derails and plows into school bus waiting at railroad crossing. According to the official railroad spokesman, John P. Railfan, the derailment was probably caused by a broken rail." Lawsuits would be filed before the victims even reached the hospital. As Mr. Loy said, the job of media relations is to release as little information as possible, especially when liability is at stake.
