Right area; wrong railroad. Skykomish was a key operating point on the Great Northern RR; where until 1956 steam and/or diesel power was exchanged for electrics for the trip through Cascade Tunnel and down to Wenatchee,WA. The Milwaukee Road traveled through equally spectacular scenery one Cascade pass to the South, over ( & under ) Snoqualmie Pass. The right of way, devoid of trains since 1980, can be enjoyed today as part of the John Wayne Iron Horse Trail across the state.
