It's called "Storage In Transit", or SIT.

There and entire yards just for this purpose in some areas of the country
and it applies to commodities like plastic pellets and resins, too.

Current 18-wheelers can carry 7,500 gallons or more, depending on the tare
weight. Trucks that haul gasoline or diesel are usually aluminum, so they
weigh less empty. Propane/LPG tanks have a much heavier tare weight, as do
insulated tank trailers for asphalt or milk.
