The Amtrak Las Vegas Limited and the Desert Wind Service???

At one time Amtrak did have two (2) routes that served Las Vegas i.e. The Las Vegas Limited and Desert Wind Trains. What ever happend to the idea of limited service such as the Amtrak Las Vegas Limited Train of the 1970's?

Could such a limited service like a gamblers special like the Reno Fun Train be re-started to serve Las Vegas in the future like back in the 1970's interestingly since comparatively Las Vegas is a larger city than Reno in population?.
