In 25 years nearly no one will be manning these museums and hardly anyone will give up their time to volunteer / restore trains...
It's time to consolidate and pool resources among rail museums now. If you wait too long some will close and more pieces will be scrapped.
The Golden Gate Railroad Museum leaving the crowded confines of the PLA's Niles Canyon is not a good good resolution. Suck it up your pride, dissolve the GGRM, join the ranks of the PLA and save your butts.
The WP Museum in Portola: have a strong affiliation with the Western Railway Museum in Rio Vista... share some fund raising for SN and WP items.
Sharing the burden of say owning a large low boy or cranes or MAK ring a dedicated machine shop that has a schedule between a dozen museums should be looked into.
Cooperation will save these great museums and further their missions.
