To Jeff's comment on the Red River line to Burney and one of my previous posts on the route along
Highway 44, if you look at the grade, the curves, the overpass, etc you can see that this was
intended to be a lot more than a simple log hauling line. There was a previous comment about a line from Redding to the coast (and the not the Pacific Rim one) and indeed Sierra Pacific bought
that land some years ago from the SP holding company disposing of surplus property. It pretty
much extended across the top of northern California.
