NCO North of Lakeview/RRLCo

I've admired the grade that Rich Hunn talks about that crosses Highway 44 out of Poison Lake many times.

As to the proposed NCO/Sumpter Valley connection, my understanding was that this would have happened more in the Prineville area. N-C-O's plans called for their mainline to run from Reno to the Columbia River via Prineville, with at least two branches over the Cascades- one to somewhere in the Medford area, and the other into the Willamette Valley. The Sumpter Valley planned to come south out of the Prairie City/John Day area over much of the route later used by the Oregon & Northwestern and then turned west to go through Brothers to a connection with the NCO. However, the NCO ran out of construction money at Lakeview.
