The problem is the UP absorbed the old SP radio techs and they have the reputation of being not very smart (Radio Shack has better techs) the old SP radio system was one of the worst in the system.
Radios are so over modulated they splattered up to 3 channels away or so under modulated you cant hear them at full volume
My hearing has suffered for many years of pearcing tones and blsting detectors and bad radios
The bad radios will continue even after the 2011 mandate and the FCC will do nothing about those loud radios that can be heard many channels away.
Metrolink and BNSF radios and detectors are much better (they have better radio techs)
