This time around I’ve attached photos which I took during the 1948-1952 era.
I don’t know the specific dates. One shows the former Key 495 repainted back
into its original Sacramento Northern livery. As I recall that was one of five
cars deeded to the California Toll Bridge Authority by the SN in exchange for
Bay Bridge train control equipment.
During that era, railfans used the term "stench" or "stenchy" to describe the magnificent
decrepitude many of the rail systems had deteriorated into. 40th & Shafter most certainly
was stenchy. Both the 495 and the MW302 have been preserved by the Rio Vista Junction folks.
