Via the NCRA-SMART agreement, NWP has the EXCLUSIVE Excursion easement on the railroad and SMART has the exclusive commuter operation. Each has exclusivity and gives NWP the right to run such an operation. Wyes at Schellvile and Ignacio will allow not only the turning of 2472, but the ability to run-around the consist at either end. The engine will not run into San Rafael because of the 6 miles of single track from Ignacio to SRF and the obvious inability to pass weekend SMART trains. Additional, there are NO gauntlet tracks from the Hamilton Station south and with the 48" high platforms preclude operation south to SRF. NWP does operate on Sunday but would leave Schellville in the early morning ahead of any excursion train running railroad east to Ignacio. In Schellviile, NWP has control of the rebuilt portion of the ex SP Kenwood branch which extends into the Sonoma Pacific (lumber) property and the rebuilt and restored portion of the Sonoma Branch which includes a rebuilt bridge ok'ed for 286,000 lbs.. Both can be fenced off and used for storage. The engines and equipment WOULD not be stored in the Yard. The details of the agreement will be announced in public session of the NCRA meeting in Novato this Wednesday and I will be there. #2472 will be able to stretch its legs to 40 mph on this track which was largely rebuilt in 2008-09 with new ties. Its dark territory and will operate via track warrants.
