The project was suspended a few years ago. Some work was done. I hear it's back on again because of the East/West rail talk, at least according to their news letter. A project like that 3000 miles away would be hard enough for any well healed rail preservation group. Anyone out there with the interest and the cash, I'm sure they would be appreciative to hear from you.
