I just visited the Rock Island Tech Society (RITS) Yahoo group. No mention of the 1790 there yet.
I recall reading on that site that the RITS society fell apart a few years ago and then put itself back together. I don't really know what happened, though, because I've never been a member. I am a little sceptical of them having the organizational ability or money to buy the 1790. I hope I am wrong.

Has anyone heard any other rumors?

I would love to see it at PSRM, which has an eclectic collection, including the M&ET loco.
