My grandfather, Live Steam pioneer "Vic Shattock", who was born in Devonshire, returned to England in 1969 to visit relatives and the highlight of the trip was to re-unite with his Sister Ida in Somersetshire, for the FIRST time in fifty-one years. I have an 8 x 10 colour photo of Ida greeting him at her front door and it is the greatest picture ever.
Anyway, during that trip (in which he was in England for 30-days), they decided to take a ride on the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway. These were OPEN cars. They had an interesting LONG ride. However, it rained the whole time like a Monsoon, and they got soaking wet. When they finally got home, they still laughed about the episode !
