Aren't the eucalyptus trees an invasive, non-native species?

A few years ago, I recall reading about a project combining waste wood material (old crossties, mainly) and various other waste wood sources to fuel a steam/electric cogeneration plant.

You'd think that would be an idea well-received by railroad and community alike...?
