Those trees are all over Ca. They were first planted to use as pilings for docks in SF Bay. The salt water didn't tear them up. Only trouble was, putting them in cracked and split a lot of them. They broke when hit too hard by a ship docking.
Well, by then there were trees planted all over. The were then used for wind breaks everywhere. They didn't do at all well in the desert so SP planted Salt Cedar as wind breaks and to control the blowing sand.
