The depot area at Dunsmuir was kept up like a park because that is where the Superintendent lived. Had his own house up on the knoll to the east of the depot. If he woke up and something looked like crap, he would be on the horn.

Most "Agents" were pushed to keep their grounds as nice as possible. They needed something done, there was always a few MofW guys around to help.
