Required viewing for any discussion of the NWP route through the Eel River Canyon is this 2009 video:
"Hard Times on the Railroad"
Times have not gotten any easier since that was filmed.
Perhaps one of our railroad economists could estimate the per-car surcharge which repairs would need.
If it were not for the Scotia Bluffs, perhaps a tourist run from Eureka to the end of the redwoods near Alderpoint or Fort Seward would work, but beyond that forget it.
What should a responsible container shipper do -- save a day's sailing and risk having the cargo tied up in Eureka for a few months while washouts are being repaired?
The timber industry does not need the railroad.
