Progress Rail EMD24B and Tier 4 710 engine

Before anyone gets excited - the new EMD model is a rebuild using the Caterpillar 3512C-HD engine rated at 2000 hp, so not sure where they came up with the designation. They have really pushed the 3512 as it used to only be 1500 hp and the 3516 was 2000 hp (remember the EMD-MK switchers?). A GP40 core listed as a "Switcher" - how the mighty have fallen. Should be a fertilizer engine using urea/DEF so will Class 1s be interested. First one going to PHL (demonstrator?). Wonder if EMD built a real railroad locomotive grade traction alternator for it?

EMD now offering a Tier 4 710 for marine use. Note that it says SCR so it's another urea/DEF engine. Unlikely the railroads would be interested, though it would be nice if they did at least catalog the option for a new 8 or 12 cylinder 710 even as a DEF engine, but apparently that will only have the Cat engines as rebuilds for now. US assigned inland tugs and smaller ships that have had "dirty" locomotive type engines (EMD, GE, Alco, F-M, etc.) have been being ripped out and replaced with new emissions compliant (rainbow farting) prime movers, and the European based designs seemed to be getting much of the business so this was a good move to preserve EMD's traditional marine market. Presumably the same is available for stationary and drilling applications.
