Give us Oregonians a break! We certainly support SP 4449 and SP&S 700 and I haven't heard any screams about them. The Sumpter line (SVRR)seems to get by just fine (when the wood burning Heisler isn't setting fires!). I did @#$%& a bit in Baker City, living 400' from a crossing. There was one engineer that seemed to think it was too much trouble to blow the horn at each of the 4 or 5 crossings, so at 2 or 3am, he'd blow solid for 50 or 60 seconds, that was annoying!
I'll admit to being somewhat of an environmentalist and I like to ride a mountain bike. I also would much prefer freight trains to the massive invasion of trucks on the roads. I also don't want all the fine branch lines that still exist turned into bike paths. For bikes and hikers, what I'd really like to see is a separate-from-the-highway paved path along the Oregon coast, paid for by those who use it.
I do wish the 844 was coming here, last time I saw her was far too many years ago, running between Boise and Weiser Idaho about 1971 or so.
