Question 1&2
The outfit car was originaly used as a classroom but later was a B&B storage shed.
After the bridge washed out on Dec. 21,1964 the outfit car was in the way of using the cantilever method of reconstructing the bridge and the Division Engineer had American Bridge Co. doze it over the bank to get it out of the way.
Question 3
When required to be in Island Mt. stayed in the Officers bunk house and ate Meals in the J.V.Moan cook house.
Was assigned headquarters at San Rafael in the NWP office until the Flood in December 1964 and was re assigned as Constructioin Superintendent to C E Neal at Willits to do the reconstruction of the Railroad from Willits to Eureka.
I was trapped in at Island Mt. with the Roadmaster by the flood the night before the flood crested. The next morning the bridge failed stranding everyone at Island MT. The morning of Dec. 23 the water had dropped about 3 feet so the Roadmaster Nd I decided to walk out towards Willits. We made it to Spyrock the night of the 23rd and to Dos Rios about 3pm on the 24th and by chance met the Assistant Trainmaster from Willits who informed us he had a work train down at Farley. We walked the additional 8 miles from Dos Rios in record time and made it home for christmas.
There were many more stories to tell about this railroad in the next 180 days before we were to run any trains.
