Jim,you need to get out of California and find a place you can afford to live. Find a place like Missouri,more over Kansas City. KC is a great place to railfan and the cost of living is probably the lowest in the country. The climate won't be as good as SoCal but hey,no more earth quakes unless that big fault line in southern Missouri lets loose, but by then it'll be to late anyway.
