Re: Saving Amtrak-Opportunity for polemics, or effective action?

If you want to take effective action on this issue, I'd suggest that you write actual "letters" to the Members of Congress who would be impacted by such cuts, best of all are letter from actual voters, residents, and businesses in the Members Congressional District. Letters have much more impact, still, than most other communications, because if you will take the time to write a letter, and sign it, you may also be inclined to remember, and write aa check to their opponent and sign it, if they don't get the message.

The second most effective way is to bombard their social media, and electronic comments forms, on the issues related to IC rail, or other cuts to which you object.

The Senate will also have to ratify these proposed cuts, and at some point be involved in any final budget reconciliation, that is approved by both houses. This is where the real budget compromises and final decisions will be made. So contacting Senators in states impacted by IC rail cuts is also very effective, once again even more effective in a written letter, or on electronic comments.

Only the House of Representatives can draft spending bills, and only he House and Senate can adopt a final budget, so if you don't like what's been proposed by the Executive Branch, let them know.

I am more concerned about the long term threat to overall funding and capital levels for our much more essential, efficient, and beneficial state and regional rail corridors, and the need to improve and modernize all of our infrastructure, which appears to be missing from this budget proposal altogether.........?

I like trains, have used IC service, and would like to see the service continue.....I've paid way more taxes (and continue to pay...) than I'll ever get back, including actually serving my country for way less than minimum wage, and lived long enough to see half of that just to pay for the fiascos like Viet Nam and Iraq, so you're free to use my excess "contributions" to fund Amtrak, and maybe even use a little for that really stupid and unproductive stuff like cancer research....?????
