We used to throw flames out the stack, no problem on the '71 build batch of GE U-26C, get her rolling good in notch 8, drop back to 3 or 4 then straight back into notch 8. Great way to keep awake, and make the night go a little quicker. The newer '74 built units were less showy with the height of flames but still did it if the throttle was worked in the same manner.
