I don't see what, if anything, Governor Ray had to do with the demise of Milwaukee Road Lines West . Thinking back, the year 1980 was tough for many Railroads in the U.S. Just a month after Milwaukee pulled out of Lines West, the Rock Island would close up shop completely. Milwaukee & The Rock had the built - in DISadvantages of being basically Midwest Granger railroads in an area already saturated with trackage.
Burlington Northern, Western Pacific & Espee would also feel the affects of the 1980 recession.
