The UTU and BLE both sold their members out over 30 years ago.......and have never recovered. I even met "landslide" Fred Hardin, and knew both convicted criminals, Boyd and Little, personally.....

PTC is accused of the same backward excuses, like distractions, as speedometers and air gauges were in the last century. If you are running over a crew working in front of you, either you or they shouldn't have been there, and PTC warrants, train position, and other vital information will be PTC accessible to both parties, and will help prevent that.

And, those damned radios, of course it's better to require every hoghead to have neck surgery to fuse their damaged three and four vertebrae, caused by repetitive stress injury from leaning out a window all night and getting knocked sideways, while trying to follow 2 or 3 bobbing lanterns on a freezing winter night....

Ah, the good old days, when half the people I knew had some level of lung impairment or even emphysema, from years of breathing those wonderful diesel fumes, or atomized oils, from air brakes that vented into the cab.....

And, think of all of the jobs we've lost shoveling horse crap, and making buggy whips, from this stupid damned new fangled technology......

PTC was not done very well and needlessly costly in my view. The FRA decided that a good "system architecture" for PTC was one that managed to integrate every existing outmoded vendor's technology, rather than developing a truly "vendor neutral" system architecture, aimed at the core user needs. But, it is coming, and like other advances will reduce the risks and costs from human error accidents, despite all of this usual whining.
