BNSF tells WSDOT it expects to run more trains on UP track Pasco-Spokane

There were recent comments on AP about BNSF utilizing the UP running from Spokane SW to Pasco when there were landslides blocking UP traffic north of Spokane, and BNSF had its own landslide issues elsewhere to contend with.


I was reading a routine story about the state building a bridge over the UP line near Burbank WA, and rather surprised to find this is part of that article ...

In that quote, "Adams" is Mike Adams, a WSDOT bridge engineer.

The location of the bridge is at the intersection of Hwy 124, the rail line, and Monument Dr (at about the center of this map):

Any BNSF trains going NE on that UP line can only go to Spokane (or beyond).

One could speculate that using the UP line is a sort of alternative to BNSF rebuilding the former SP&S line that was ripped out in the mid '80s.
