I remember reading that as part of the SPSF merger the Santa Fe managers were planning to use the West Side Line to by-pass the delta and Stockton. They planned to upgrade it from Pittsburg to Fresno and run the transcon hotshots over it. It's too bad that didn't work out. Having lived in Tracy it's sad to see how dead the Brentwood line is now.
