In 1974 I was working for the National Park Service in Vancouver WA. After getting used to the job I decided to take the train to Seattle on my "daze off" and discovered the Iron Horse. Back then the Sounders were a collage of AMTRAK heritage pulled by Burlington E-units. Usually the dome was coupled to the locomotive. In Seattle I'd ride the ferry all day, catch up on my Northwest history for work, eat donuts and drink coffee. Back then once you were on the boat for $1.80 you could stay on all day. A quick beer at the Iron Horse and I was back on the train to Vancouver with the merry going home crowd at the piano bar. I had just discovered Heaven.....trains and ferries all weekend (my daze off were mid-week) and the Iron Horse for a beer. After that nobody saw me the rest of summer. I even got a date to tag along a few times because everybody wondered "we never see you".....what does he do in Seattle???

It was all reminiscent of what we lost in the Bay Area....
