It'z a lot of work Bob.......and, it appears they still only have part of the money.
The MTA Board finally adopted the "6-2" configuration, 6 run through tracks for LOSSAN and Metrolink (from the original 2005 EIR), and 2 instead of 4 HSR run-through tracks. It appears that the good news is that they are designing this in phases, and that the first phase would be the "6" track run-through, Which is MTA, LOSSAN, and Metrolinks number one priority, regardless of if they ever do complete the remaining "2" HSR run-through tracks. Which, of course, won't have any benefit to anyone, until we figure out how to get the CHSRA to LA, if ever. The "deal" with CHSRA is that this "6" option can be completed with what remains of the available bonding by 2024.
The only funds actually authorized were around $17 million for HDR to do continue design and engineering work on the project for the remainder of 2017, and no construction funds have yet been authorized. So I don't see any real chance of any actual construction starting before at least 2018.
There is really no funding for more than the "6" tracks. But, given the benefits of this investment, and the unlikely event that we will ever see a connection to the north in our lifetime, that is a win.
