BNSF has trackage rights on the UP via the Moffat Tunnel but not Tennessee Pass. If BNSF had Tennessee Pass they would be able to connect to their trackage rights at Dotsero. BNSF has inspected the Tennessee Pass line as guests of the UP so you know they've talked about it. Any railroad, UP, BNSF or ??? would and should be daunted at the prospect of operating Tennessee Pass. Its a very difficult piece of railroad to operate economically and the SP didn't leave it in very good condition. While the action was great while it lasted they beat the RR to a pulp before UP decided to give up on it. That and coming up on 20 years now of laying dormant hasn't done it much good either. It would take an extraordinary set of circumstances to justify reopening the line but UP still seems to want to keep that card in their deck. Who knows what and when something might happen - maybe never.
