BNSF Seattle Sub Mudslide

Sometime on May 5th there was a pretty significant mudslide on the BNSF Seattle sub at about milepost 9, which is just north of the Tacoma Narrows Bridges and south of the Nelson Bennett tunnel.

Crews have been working on it pretty much night and day with huge freight traffic backups, and of course a 48 hour moratorium on passenger trains. Not sure when the 48 hours ended, but today was the first day they ran again. Main 1 (water side) is the only track open, so the single track (the tunnel) has been extended to Titlow until the work is completed.

Here's Cascades 509 just past the slide and passing some of the equipment used to clean up the mess. Where the slide occurred, the bank has been pushed out about 20' into the Sound and it appears to be about 150' in length.
