Oberstar does more than push rail reregulaton. He's also pushing a rail safety bill that includes hundreds more FRA inspectors, elimination of limbo time, and all sorts of other whimsey such as mandating positive train control in the next few years. The Senate recently passed their (more sensible) version of the rail safety bill and it goes to conference. It will be interesting to see if Oberstar backs off on some of his more extreme measures.
